Members of the Reineke group volunteered in the annual Polymer Day – You Make It, You Break It! educational outreach event for high school students in the Exploring Careers in Science & Engineering, organized by the College of Science & Engineering K-12 Outreach.

Molly and Will led a Nano-flash Precipitation demo, illustrating the idea behind using micelles as delivery vehicles for treating disease such as cancer. Meanwhile, Mallory and Haley organized a Silly Goop demo, where students learned about viscoelasticity and cross-linking of polymeric materials. Jeff, James, and Megan also demonstrated the fundamental idea of how a polymer’s physical and chemical structure impacts its macroscopic properties in the Epoxy Tensile Test, Polylactic Acid, Happy/Sad Sphere demos.
