Reineke group members Haley, Jeff, and Will volunteered in a Freshman Seminar course taught by Prof. R. Lee Penn, where Janesville junior high school students visited the U to learn about nanotechnology.
Students learned about the interplay between nanotechnology and biology in the form of targeted therapeutics delivery. Haley, Jeff, and Will conducted basic fluorescence microscopy and light scattering demos to convey how genes or drugs can be encapsulated and facilitated into cells using polymeric carriers on the nano-scale. Students demonstrated their understanding of these ideas by constructing their own micellar vehicles out of pipe cleaners.
